Houston Recovery Initiative
The Houston Recovery Initiative (HRI) promotes a Recovery Oriented System of Care, shifting from isolated treatment episodes to a continuous, community-based approach to substance misuse recovery. Through volunteer-led workgroups like the Adolescent ROSC and Opioid Taskforce, HRI collaborates with local agencies to provide resources, education, and support for long-term recovery and housing solutions.
The Harris County Area Agency on Aging, established in 1977, offers federally funded services to elderly residents under the Older Americans Act of 1965. Its responsibilities include assessing the needs of seniors, advocating for them, filling service gaps with federal funds, and providing training and assistance to organizations involved in aging services.
The Baylor College of Medicine Anti-Human Trafficking Program, established in 2016, partners with local government and community groups to support victims of labor and sex trafficking in Houston. The program provides trauma-informed care, trains healthcare providers, connects victims with essential resources, and contributes to research on human trafficking’s medical and psychiatric impacts.
Hire Houston Youth serves as the facilitator to connect youth to local jobs where they are empowered with an “earn and learn” opportunity in Houston’s dynamic economy.
Launched by the Houston Health Department in 2016, the Houston Sickle Cell Collaborative (HSCC) brings together community organizations, advocates, and healthcare institutions to support the local sickle cell community. The HSCC’s efforts include education, support services, and healthcare, with key achievements such as hosting impactful Advocacy Summits that guide future goals for sickle cell care and awareness.
The Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Network Center provides free diabetes self-management education and many other health related services to Houstonians in order to reduce and prevent chronic disease.
The Community Re-Entry Network Program is a program of the Houston Health Department. Our caring, multi-disciplinary staff is committed to addressing the needs of the “whole” person with innovative, evidence-based programming and linkage to services designed to meet the needs of formerly incarcerated persons, and interrupting the cycle of recidivism.
